The musical tradition of the Roman Catholic Church is a treasure of inestimable value, greater even than that of any other art. The main reason for this pre-eminence is that, being sacred song united to the words, it forms a necessary and integral part of the solemn liturgy.
.…are responsible for enhancing the liturgy with appropriate sacred choral music and for supporting the musical participation of the congregation at particular church locations during Mass and various services throughout the liturgical year. The Parish of Mary, Queen of Saints has three adult choirs: St. John the Baptist Choir, St. Titus Choir, and the St. Frances Cabrini/Our Lady of Fatima Choir.
For those desiring to join any of our parish's adult choirs, please contact our Parish Director of Music Ministry for more information. Also, for your convenience you may express your interest in becoming a choir member by completing and submitting online the Mary, Queen of Saints — Adult Choir Sign Up Form. Previous choral experience or the ability to read music is not necessary, but helpful. It is necessary to have a pleasant, trainable singing voice; a spirit of dedication and cooperation as well as a love for sacred music, the Church, and God’s people.
...consists of volunteers who sing at parish funerals. The Mercy Choir helps to enhance the liturgy, support the participation of those in attendance, and provide comfort to those mourning the loss of a loved one.
If you normally have available time in the morning, please consider joining this important ministry. The choir rehearses prior to the funeral/memorial Mass. (Membership in one of our church choirs is not required, but helpful.) Contact our Parish Director of Music Ministry for more information.
…is for children ages 5 thru 12. Children of the parish who are members of this choir participate in various liturgies and musical activities throughout the year. If your child desires to join the parish's Children's Choir, please contact the Children's Choir Director for details.
The role of the cantor is to lead the sung prayer and support the congregation in singing at Mass and various paraliturgies/services. Our cantors are assigned as needed to any Mass at any of our four churches, though an effort is made to schedule cantors at the church he/she would normally attend. If you are interested in being a cantor, please contact the Parish Director of Music Ministry to discuss the requirements and to set up an audition.
