Marriage Preparation
Every couple to be married in the Diocese of Pittsburgh is required to participate in a diocesan-approved marriage preparation program.
Such a program should be taken at least six months prior to your wedding.

at MQSP
A pre-marriage program is offered at Mary, Queen of Saints Parish. This program, referred to as the Pre-Cana Classes, is offered twice a year, normally scheduled for Fall and Spring. It is comprised of a set of three (3) class sessions.

Our parish Pre-Cana Classes are workshop-style sessions for engaged couples planning to be married in the Catholic Church. The program will enable couples, as a couple, an opportunity to share honestly with each other their strengths and gifts that each will bring to the marriage. Couples will also look at the challenges and opportunities that come with married life.
The discussions will be on topics such as:- family living
- communication
- finances
- Christian sexuality
- parenting
- Natural Family Planning (NFP)
- Sacrament of Marriage

MQSP Pre-Cana Classes will be held in Fr. O’Connell Hall, as located on the grounds of St. Frances Cabrini Church (115 Trinity Drive in Center Township), and offered as follows:
2023 Fall Schedule - start date is October 10, 2023- Tuesday, October 10, 2023
- Tuesday, October 17, 2023
- Tuesday, October 24, 2023
2024 Spring Schedule - start date is March 5, 2024- Tuesday, March 5, 2024
- Tuesday, March 12, 2024
- Tuesday, March 19, 2024
The cost of the Pre-Cana Classes to be conducted at Mary, Queen of Saints Parish is $30 per couple. (This is a non-refundable fee.)

Registering for the Program of Pre-Cana Classes At MQSP
Classes are offered in sets of three — one set in Spring and another set in Fall. You must attend all three classes as a couple to receive completion credit for the program. Couples to be married in Catholic churches outside of Mary, Queen of Saints Parish are also welcome to take our parish's program of Pre-Cana Classes.

PLEASE NOTE that registering for the Pre-Cana Classes
is NOT registering to schedule your actual wedding day
at any of the churches under Mary, Queen of Saints Parish.♦
If you do plan to have your wedding in one of the Mary, Queen of Saints' churches and have not completed the MQSP Wedding Intake Form AND spoken to the priest/deacon who will be presiding at your wedding, please DO NOT proceed any further. Instead, first complete the MQSP Wedding Intake Form as found on the Matrimony page.

Alternate Programs
If you are unable to attend the Pre-Cana Classes offered here at Mary, Queen of Saints Parish, you are free to make use of any Pre-Cana Program offered throughout the Pittsburgh Diocese. This would include other parish-sponsored programs (including the Renew the 'I Do' Marriage Preparation program); the Engaged Encounter weekend retreat; or online formation through Catholic Marriage Prep. (This is the only Diocesan-approved online pre-marriage program.)
